Southern California Logistic Airport - Victorville CA

The conversion of the former George Air Force Base to Southern California Logistics Airport was designed to provide major corporations with logistics needs access to a global intermodal logistics gateway to the Western United States. Located near Interstate 15 in California’s Victor Valley, the 5,000 acre complete intermodal business complex is approximately 20 miles north of downtown San Bernardino.

In July 2000 the Department of Commerce awarded the Southern California Logistics Airport the designation of Foreign Trade Zone. The designation was intended to make it much easier for the Victor Valley Economic Development Authority to convince international carriers to use the airport as a base for shipping foreign products to Southern California.

Here are some pictures I took during the last few months. Lots of air action at this place.

U.S. Air Force Lockheed C-5A Galaxy Air Transport. From Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. This plane is huge. Look at the crew-chief by the stairs for size comparison.

Orbital Science Corporation Lockheed L-1011 "Stargazer". This aircraft launches Pegasus missiles for space exploration. See the launch pod underneath the fuselage behind the front landing gear. Here is a link to the Orbital Science web site.

10 Tanker Air Carrier DC-10. This aircraft many of you have seen on TV during the last wild fires we had. It is a true water bomber. Here is a link to the 10 Tanker web site.

American Trans Air (ATA) Lockheed L-1011 in for maintenance.

Just Spreadin' the News... 5 Years in Iraq

When I started this blog, it was never ment to be an avenue for me to express my opinions or critisize anyone or anything. Rather, it is a blog that takes a look at what I think are some of the fun, beautiful and historic things about America that I have come across or may have experienced.

I served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and consider myself extremely lucky to live in this country. I have the utmost respect for all our men and women in uniform and care about their well-being and hope they all return home safely.
