Mr. Roberts - R.I.P.

The last of the Cartwright clan from the television series Bonanza has passed away. Pernell Roberts (shown on the left) died on January 24th. One of my all-time favorite actors and good guys. Together with Lorne, Dan and Michael, he now rides on the "Great Ponderosa in the Sky."

Pernell Elvin Roberts (May 18, 1928 – January 24, 2010) was an American stage, movie and television actor as well as singer. He was widely known for his roles as Ben Cartwright's eldest son, Adam Cartwright, on the western series Bonanza (a role he played from 1959 to 1965), and as chief surgeon, Dr. John MacIntyre, the title character on Trapper John, M.D. (1979-1986).

He was also widely known for his life-long activism, which included participation in the Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965 and pressuring NBC to refrain from hiring whites to portray minority characters.

Didn't know that about his activism. Good for him.

I'm sorry to hear that Mr. Roberts passed away... I can only guess as to how many hours of "Bonanza" reruns I watched growing up!

it saddens me to think it only seemed like yesterday that Trapper-John MD was on! You sometimes forget about these people until one day you discover it on a blog. My how time flys by.. RIP
