Water, Cereal & Smokes

Here are some great examples of advertising postcards from the 1960s. The Pluto Water had a real serious drug in it. And it only took 70 years before it was taken of the market. Here is the Wikpedia link to Pluto Water. ENJOY!

This card is from the beautiful French Lick Sheraton Hotel, the home of the World famous Pluto Water laxative, since 1848 concentrated and bottle here, and sold in drug stores throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Kellogg Company, Battle Creek Michigan - Kellogg's is the world's largest manufacturer of ready to eat cereals with plants throughout the world. The Battle Creek Plant, the original home of Kellogg's has been bringing "The best to you each morning" for over 50 years.

Durham, North Carolina - You are invited to take a hostess conducted tour through this modern cigarett factory conveniently located on Main Street. Visiting hours 8:00 to 11:15 A.M. and 1:00 to 3:30 P.M. Monday trough Friday.

I had to do a double take when I saw this post! I used to live about an hour from the French Lick Springs Hotel. The sulfur water (aka Pluto Water) is some of the nastiest smelling stuff ever. Like bottled rotten eggs! Still...people swore by it, saying it cured every ailment under the sun. That hotel was recently restored and looks putty durn good for its age.

The pluto ad. is not very delicate, to say the least! I wonder how that particular ad would go down these days...
